Preventing repeat child exploitation material offending: An international evaluation of the CEM-COPE Program

The available evidence pertaining to CEM offending trajectories indicates that there is a growing need for intervention that specifically targets CEM offending. However, practice pertaining to CEM intervention varies substantially internationally; individuals are often placed in existing intervention programs targeting offline offending, receive individualized intervention on an ad-hoc basis, or do not receive CEM-specific intervention. This research seeks to contribute to local and international policy and practice reform by promoting the delivery of an empirically-informed intervention that effectively reduces the unique needs and offending behaviours of individuals with CEM offenses. It is hoped that by providing an effective and evidence-based alternative to inappropriate or non-existent rehabilitation options for people who engage in CEM offences, we will be able to enhance community safety and reduce the significant harm associated with online child sexual exploitation and abuse.
